'Rocket' is super smooth and extremely athletic, has nice bone and feet.

Rocket has been doing quite well racing with the Maritime Barrel Racing Association (MBRA).  He was the 2004 & 2006 Novice Pole Champion and also did very well in the Open Barrel Division.     In 2005 he won the Annapolis Valley Exhibition Overall Barrel Championship and 2007 he was the Reserve Barrel Champion after losing in a runoff by 1/100th of a second!

Did you know ...
that one of Rocket's foals starred in a movie?
Virginia's Run was filmed
in 2001 in Shelburne, Nova Scotia.
Wrangler plays the part of 'Stormy'
in the movie, Virginia's orphaned foal whose dam died at birth.
Wrangler's (real) mother Lady Tiffany was there on the sidelines, but because they needed to be separated during filming, Wrangler could only see her.
Wrangler behaved excellent and everyone fell in love with her.
How many three month old foals have the temperament to handle that?

We believe it is important to not only have racing bloodlines but also performance bloodlines.   This gives the horse not only speed and athleticism but also the brains to keep it all together.

Salty Hobby Boy's pedigree is rich with AQHA Champions and legends of the breed - Rocket Wrangler, Hobby Horse, Sugar Bars, Oklahoma Star, Leo, Joe Hancock and Bold Ruler plus many more.  His sire comes from a long list of AAA Stake Winners and proven sires of AAA and AAAT - Rocket Wrangler, the sire of 'Dash for Cash';  Bold Ruler, the sire of 'Secretariat'.   On his dam's side, Darn Good Hobby by Hobby Horse is a ROM Show (WP and Halter) and sire of Reserve World Champions and AQHA Champions.  Hobby Horse is AAA, Hi Point Working Cow Horse, AQHA Champion, Superior in halter and performance (Working Cow Horse), ROM race and ROM show sire.   He is also the sire of the Reining and Working Cow Horse champion 'Expensive Hobby'.

About Rocket's color ...

Rocket appears at most times of the year to be a dun, with a distinct dorsal stripe that is indicative of dun.   However, with the knowledge that is now available, as well as genetic testing, we now know that Rocket is actually a buckskin with a dark modifying gene, known as 'sooty' which is what gives him the appearance of a dorsal stripe.   We also know that he is homozygous for the black gene.

What that means is that since he carries the cream gene and is homozygous for the black gene he can sire buckskin, black, smoky black, perlino, smoky cream and bay.   He cannot, however, sire any red-based foals, regardless of the base color of the mares he is bred to.   He will not sire any sorrel, chestnut, palomino, cremello or red dun foals.   Guaranteed.

If the mare posesses any color modifiers that Rocket doesn't have (dun, roan, gray, Paint or pinto) then the foal may also inherit those characteristics.    This is how he has sired dun foals, the dam was dun.  He can also sire grulla, silver grulla, or smoky grulla out of a dun or grulla mare.
