After 20 years of breeding and 85 babies Kevin and I have decided we will no longer be standing Rocket to the public. It’s been an amazing experience, we’ve met so many wonderful people and made a lot of friends. We would like to thank the mare owners who have bred to Rocket.  We are thrilled that so many love his babies and believe in him as much as we do. We are so grateful, thank you so much!  And also thank you to those who bought our babies!

'Rocket' is super smooth and extremely athletic, has nice bone and feet.    He's quiet and has a wonderful disposition which he passes on to his babies.

Rocket was shown from 2001 - 2007.   He did quite well racing with the Maritime Barrel Racing Association (MBRA), being the 2004 & 2006 Novice Pole Champion, ending in the Top Five most years and also did very well in the Open Barrel Division.

In 2005 he won the Annapolis Valley Exhibition Overall Barrel Championship and 2007 he was the Reserve Barrel Champion after losing in a runoff by 1/100th of a second!

Did you know ...
that one of Rocket's foals starred in a movie?
Virginia's Run was filmed
in 2001 in Shelburne, Nova Scotia.
Wrangler plays the part of 'Stormy'
in the movie, Virginia's orphaned foal whose dam died at birth.
Wrangler's (real) mother Lady Tiffany was there on the sidelines, but because they needed to be separated during filming, Wrangler could only see her.
Wrangler behaved excellent and everyone fell in love with her.
How many three month old foals have the temperament to handle that?

Rocket has a nice mix of racing and performance bloodlines which has given him his speed and athleticism and most importantly, a great mind.    And the great part is he passes this on to his babies.

Salty Hobby Boy's pedigree is rich with AQHA Champions and legends of the breed - Rocket Wrangler, Hobby Horse, Sugar Bars, Oklahoma Star, Leo, Joe Hancock and Bold Ruler plus many more.  His sire, Convincing Prince, is a 1D barrel producer in Nebraska and western Canada.  He comes from a long list of AAA Stake Winners and proven sires of AAA and AAAT - Princely Best (SI 96), Rocket Wrangler, the sire of 'Dash for Cash';  Bold Ruler, the sire of 'Secretariat'.

His dam, Hobbys Halo (SI 85), by Darn Good Hobby, who is by Hobby Horse, is a ROM Show (WP and Halter) and sire of Reserve World Champions and AQHA Champions.  Hobby Horse is AAA, Hi Point Working Cow Horse, AQHA Champion, Superior in halter and performance (Working Cow Horse), ROM race and ROM show sire.   He is also the sire of the Reining and Working Cow Horse champion 'Expensive Hobby'.

About Rocket's color ...

Genetically Rocket is a smoky brown (a brown horse with a cream gene), but most people call them buckskins, so to avoid confusion that's what we will continue to call him.    We also know that he is homozygous for the black gene.   To anyone who studies color genetics he is At/EE/Cr/N

What that means is, since he carries the cream gene and is homozygous for the black gene he can sire buckskin, bay, brown, smoky brown, black, smoky black, perlino, and smoky cream.   He cannot, however, sire any red-based foals, regardless of the base color of the mares he is bred to.   He will not sire any sorrel, chestnut, palomino, cremello or red dun foals.   Guaranteed.

If the mare posesses any color modifiers that Rocket doesn't have (dun, roan, gray, Paint or pinto) then the foal may also inherit those characteristics.    With our red dun mares he often produces dunskin, which is a buckskin with dun factor.   He can also sire grulla, silver grulla, or smoky grulla out of a dun or grulla mare.
